Day Seven: Unexpected

they didn’t expect her.

or him,

or that little town,

or that barn,

or those animals,

or that manger.

they didn’t really expect a baby,

and they certainly didn’t expect to miss it.

but in all their preparations, all their fanfare, they missed it all,

and the lowly, unprepared shepherds receive the birth announcement,

and the outcasted crazies are the only ones that follow the star.

yeah, it was unexpected and strange and upside down -

the perfect beginning to this unexpected, strange, upside down life

that sparks this unexpected, strange, upside down revolution.


may we never let our fanfare cause us to miss Him and the unexpected, strange, upside down life He calls us to. Merry, Merry Christmas to you & yours!
