Goodbye 2011. . .

. . .It's been fun.

It's been a crazy, fast-paced year, but it's definitely been fun.

Lots of change came to me, my family, and my world this year, but I'm the type of girl that embraces change, and I loved every minute of it.

Meeting Florianlyn and Rochelle, visiting the Philippines, starting high school, going on a compassion trip with my youth group over the summer, graduating, sponsoring Happyness. It was epic. ;)

I'll miss it, but not too much, because I have high hopes for 2012. <3

Enjoy whatever plans you have for NYE, and stay safe! :)

Peace On Earth

Christmas... It totally snuck up on me! :P

I'm gonna keep this short and sweet, because you really should go spend some time with family instead of reading my blog right now. ;)

This Christmas, I hope you find happiness not in a colourfully wrapped box or at the mall, but in giving: A smile, spare change, some time, a hot meal, or a listening ear. I hope your Christmas is filled with joy, grace, love, hope and peace. And I hope that you'll look up and find that bright star, and that you'd follow it until you find Jesus, wrapped in cloth and lying in a manger, inviting you to be at peace, inviting you to love like there's no tomorrow, inviting you into his family.

Merry Christmas!!! <3

"Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased." -Luke 2-14

A Very Late Monday Mania...

Six days 'til Christmas. :)

4 days 'til the break, then only ONE school-less day to wait. ;D

Terribly sorry the only things on this blog lately has been Monday posts... We will get back to two or three posts a week probably in February, when this sem is O-V-E-R! (And I say goodbye to Geography class forever! :D)

Anyways, Merry 6-days-til Christmas! :)

"But the angel said to them, 'Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy. It is for all people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you. He is Christ the Lord.'" Luke 2:10-11

Monday Mania - Mary, Did You Know?

No, she didn't know a lot of that. But she had faith anyways.

The angel Gabriel tells her all this shocking stuff, about having a baby that's God's son, and she's troubled at first, but at the end, she's just says: "I am the Lord's servant. May your word to me be fulfilled."

She didn't say "No" or "I'll think about it, come back in a few weeks." She had faith that this was God's oh-so-perfect plan for her and was just like, "Let's go, God!"

Mary was not much older than me, perhaps even my age, and I ask myself: Could I have faith like hers? Could I trust like she did? Would I be able to, without missing a beat, say "Yes"?

Her faith amazes and inspires me.

So, everyday, I will strive to have faith like Mary's.

"But the angel said to her, 'Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favour with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob's descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.'

'I am the Lord's servant,' Mary answered. 'May your word to me be fulfilled.' Then the angel left her." - Luke 1:30-33, 38

The Little Drummer Boy

I love the story of the Little Drummer Boy... Don't you?

I mean, I have so little to offer Jesus, but he takes it anyways.

He takes it and turns it into something beautiful.

Similar to the boy with the 5 loaves and 2 fish. He gave Jesus all he had, and the little that it was, it was enough for Jesus to do something amazing.

I mean, I'm sure Jesus could've just gone "abracadabra" and bread and fish would've showed up anyways... But he wants to see my faith, he wants to involve me, to give my all. He wants to use me, and he WILL use me, the little that I am.

So, I will play my drum, and I will play my best, knowing that He's smiling at me.

Christmas Must Be Something More

Hey so...

20 more days! :)

I love this song. Taylor Swift isn't ashamed to put Jesus' name in her songs and acknowledge him as the reason for the season and for her life. :) Love it.

And speaking of famous people not ashamed of their relationship with Christ... Not to get on the Tim Tebow bandwagon or anything, but you know, he's kinda cool. ;) What makes him even cooler is that he's born in the Philippines, the same place that Rochelle and Florianlyn live, the same place my parents were born and the same place that stole my heart this summer! :) And what's even COOLER, is that The Tim Tebow Foundation does a lot of work with orphans in the Philippines and is opening a children's hospital that'll be helping kids who can't afford it - and need's God's love. :) Sweetness.

Have a great Monday!

Mary said, "My soul gives glory to the Lord. My spirit delights in God my Savior. He has taken note of me even though I am not important. From now on all people will call me blessed." -Luke 1:46-48

Breaking the Silence

I did it!

:D Operation: Vow of Silence = successful! :)

Let me tell you, it was weird. It didn’t even really feel like I didn’t talk all day. Was it hard? You bet. But it was a different “hard” than I though it would be. The hard parts weren’t those “OMG-I-just-thought-of-something-really-important-to-say-and-I-have-to-say-it-NOW” moments, it was when I didn’t talk for a long time and got caught up in something else, like reading or something, that when someone called my name and looked up, I FORGOT! I seriously took in that breath you take before a sentence every time, and I’ll admit it: Once, that breathy/mumbly first two words that you say half in your head/half out loud while you’re warming up for a sentence came out and then I was like... OH YEAH! LOL. But it was actually surprisingly not as hard as I thought it would be to stay off twitter, facebook and email. It was hard, but not THAT hard [But the first thing I did this morning was log on... Haha.]. The hardest part, actually, was being bored! Man, I didn’t even realize how much of my time TALKING keeps me occupied! Haha.

Anywaysss... I DID IT! 24 hours of silence! Would I do it again? Sure. Should you do it? Absolutely! :D

But, telling you about my day isn’t really the point of this blog post. Breaking the silence is the point, so here it goes:

In our North-American society, poverty is often a taboo. If we don’t know about it, talk about it, see it, hear about it, then it doesn’t exist. We’re excused from doing something.

Well guess what.

I’m breaking the silence.

You’re reading this blog post, so you can’t act like you don’t know anymore: Poverty is real.

121 million children aren’t receiving a formal education. More than half of them are girls.

300 million children under that age of 5 live in areas affected by armed conflict.

One in three children in developing countries are malnourished and are sick almost 50% of the year.

21 000 children die each day from preventable diseases. That’s one every four seconds.

But those are stats. Overwhelming stats that make you say to yourself, “I can’t change anything, why try?”

Fine.

But this girl is not a stat. This boy is not a stat. Lina is not a stat. Neither is Milda or Daniel.

They are real kids with real dreams and real problems and real lives. Lives that have a purpose that their Creator - the same Creator that created YOU - breathed into them. Lives that are just waiting for that chance.

But society told them no. Just because they we’re born in the third world. Society told them “Silence!” and they obeyed because they were helpless to speak out, just because no one would listen. Society told them, and then ignored them, never speaking about them again.

The silence needs to be broken.

So let’s speak out. Together. Because we’re getting close, really close, to being loud enough that poverty doesn’t have to be a taboo anymore.

It can just be a distant memory.

Many people supported my during my Vow of Silence, which resulted in this:

Thank you. Thankyouthankyouthankyou! I set a goal for $200 and it was far surpassed! To all who contributed: THANK YOU. You guys...! $350 provides seven classrooms with school supplies. Or three families with clean drinking water. We’ve made a HUGE difference. Thank you!

Oh! And it’s not too late to donate if you wanna! I’ll be keeping my fundraising page up, probably through the weekend, so if you’d like to donate, please click here.

Thanks again!! <3
